The index finger is the innermost of the four fingers. Its other names include “forefinger”, “pointer finger” or just “pointer”, or “trigger finger”. The index finger is innervated by the same nerve as the middle finger (and half the ring finger), so many nerve-related symptoms will be shared with those other fingers.
