Panic Disorder: Overview

Panic disorder is an anxiety where a person suffers from recurring panic attacks (anxiety attacks). These episodes are sudden attacks of severe anxiety and eventually panic, brought on by irrational and abnormal thinking. Anxiety is often triggered by other types of anxiety disorders, such as Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and so on. The person may also start to fear the onset of a panic attack, and avoid situations in which they may occur, leading to a negative cycle of reinforcement of anxiety.
