For causes of external ear pain, rather than inner ear pain, some causes may include:

  • Swimmer’s Ear (otitis externa)
  • Foreign body in the ear (e.g. an insect in the ear, a small object, sand, etc.)
  • Furunculosis (infected hair follicles in the ear canal)
  • Boil inside the ear canal
  • Skin condition (affecting the skin inside the ear canal)
  • Frostbite
  • Chondrodermatitis nodularis chronica
